A great reference for the n00b bride! July 1, 2009 Maryanna (Athens GA) Assuming most brides are first-timers at this whole wedding-planning thing, I would recommend this to pretty much all of them! While it does make me a bit weary to learn of all the myriad scams out there, I'd rather know about them than get ripped off! I'm thankful that the authors have included so many helpful lists of questions and red flags. The only negative thing I can say about it is that there seem to be a lot of grammatical/spelling errors and typos throughout the book. These errors, of course, take a back seat to all the wonderfully helpful information the book offers! I highly recommend it.
Great Book on How not to get ripped off; good practical advice June 28, 2009 Jannette Soto Mejias I liked the organization of the book; great advice on what to avoid and tips on what questions to ask to avoid getting ripped off. I was just starting to plan my wedding and the book gave me great direction and good tips. Great supplement book to any other guide you have.
Great!! So many tips and ideas!! June 2, 2009 Michelle Goncalves (Beacon Falls, CT) I got this book b/c it had really good reviews and I definitely need some help in planning my wedding of 250-300 people. Its got tons of great tips, ideas and things to look out for. Its a definite purchase for anyone on a budget and a DIY kind of person. I bought this with my wedding planner and so happy that I did. Now I'm not so worried about planning this enormous event now that I have this book!! My only complaint is that its pretty narrow so sometimes it makes reading a little frustrating, but I guess that's the idea so it fits nicely into your handbag! Good luck to all!
Great book...but don't read it too early! May 1, 2009 V. Grant 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is so handy for planning purposes and avoiding the typical wedding pitfalls. I found it particularly helpful for choosing a wedding gown. I love that they rate the largest designers, and felt much more comfortable spending my money knowing that my designer had been well-rated by this book. Also, having read this book gave me the confidence to avoid oversizing. I went to a bridal boutique, and found THE dress. When I went to place the order, the sales lady tried to get me to order a size up from where I thought I should be. My chest and waist fit the smaller size, but she said my hips were an inch off, so I should go with the next bigger size...which would have involved extensive alterations for the top. Luckily my mom was there and convinced me to order the smaller size, because the lady was measuring my hips incorrectly! I went to a seamstress the next day to be measured and, lo and behold, my hips were an inch smaller than what the sales lady had said. Thank goodness for Bridal Bargains and my mom! However, I would caution all brides not to read this book too soon after getting engaged. It's a little depressing to hear how everyone in the wedding industry wants to screw you. It may be true, but sometimes you just need to stay on Cloud 9 for a little while before coming down to reality. Don't start reading this book until you've started the serious negotiations and purchases, otherwise you may get discouraged from planning your wedding at all!
Just Starting to Plan April 6, 2009 Tahoe Gal This book has wonderful tips and suggestions on how to save while planning your wedding. They have covered all the basics and then some. I love how the authors uncover scams that the bridal industry plays on couples, everything from floral to attire. If your planning your wedding without the help of a professional planner I highly recommend this book for getting you on the right track, this book is even great if you are using a professional planner.
